Efforts to Increase Farmers’ Income in Katiha

The agriculture department is making continuous efforts to increase the income of farmers even during the Kharif season. Farmers are being encouraged to cultivate crops other than rice. In particular, the agriculture department is preparing to promote the cultivation of coarse grains on a large scale this time. This is why targets have been set for all districts of Bihar for the cultivation of coarse grains, including in Katihar district.

Promoting Intercropping for Higher Profits

According to agriculture officials, farmers can earn more profits by cultivating two crops at the same time instead of incurring losses. This is because if one crop suffers losses, the harvest from the other crop can help compensate for it. The agriculture department has directed the formation of clusters for the direct sowing of intercropping crops like pearl millet-pigeon pea and sorghum-pigeon pea this year in Katihar district.

Direct Sowing of Coarse Grains in Katihar

This year, Katihar district has been instructed to directly sow intercropping crops like pearl millet-pigeon pea and sorghum-pigeon pea across 75 acres. By dividing the clusters and instructing farmers on cultivation, their income is expected to double. In order to meet the production targets, a total of 6 quintals of seeds will be required for the intercropping of coarse grains like pearl millet-pigeon pea and sorghum-pigeon pea.
