Heat Stroke Deaths in Various States
The intense heatwave in many states of the country has led to the deaths of over 270 people. Uttar Pradesh alone has reported over 160 deaths, with Bihar recording 65 and Odisha 41 deaths due to heatstroke. In the capital of Jharkhand, Ranchi, 11 people have also lost their lives due to the heatwave.
Deaths in Odisha
Odisha has reported 41 deaths due to the heatwave, with Sundargarh recording 17, Sambalpur 8, Jharsuguda 7, Bolangir 6, and three deaths in other parts of the state. Among the 17 suspicious deaths in Sundargarh district, 12 were reported at the Rourkela Government Hospital. The remaining deaths occurred at various hospitals in the district.
More than 80 Deaths in Purvanchal
In Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal region, more than 80 people lost their lives due to the heatwave, with Varanasi alone recording 34 deaths. Other districts like Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Gazipur, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Ballia, and Bhadohi also reported deaths due to the extreme heat.
Heatwave in Bihar
Bihar has also been hit hard by the scorching heat, with 65 deaths reported across various districts. Aurangabad recorded the highest number of deaths at 15, followed by Rohtas with seven, Kaimur with five, Begusarai and Barbiggha with one each. The state is facing severe heat-related challenges, with eight more deaths reported on Wednesday.
High Temperatures in Rajasthan
Despite a slight decrease in maximum temperatures in some parts of Rajasthan, the state is still experiencing a severe heatwave. Ganganagar recorded a maximum temperature of 48.3 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The weather department has suggested that there may be relief from the heatwave starting from June 1st, with a decrease of two to three degrees Celsius expected in the next 48 hours.
