In many cities, the scorching heatwave continues to prevail. Bihar witnessed light to moderate rainfall in several districts on Saturday night, bringing relief from the heat. Parts of Katihar, Purnia, and surrounding areas experienced heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, cool winds in districts like Bettiah, Madhubani, and Katihar provided relief from the heat. The weather department has issued an orange alert for possible thunderstorms and rain in some parts of the state.
The weather department predicts hot and humid weather in the remaining districts of western and southern central Bihar. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas. Some districts like Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Saharsa, and others may experience strong winds and rainfall with light to moderate intensity. There is also a possibility of rain in Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, and other districts.
In the last 24 hours, extreme heat has led to the death of a polling officer and illness of 35 people, including polling and police officers. Three voters in Rohtas also lost their lives due to the intense heat. Additionally, 19 police officers on election duty fell ill in Jehanabad. Several polling officers in Nalanda also fell ill. In Bhabua, four police officers fell ill due to the extreme heat.
An alert for heatwave has been issued in districts like Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhabua, Aurangabad, and Arwal in the southern part of the state. The maximum temperature in these areas is expected to be between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the northern and northeastern parts may experience temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius. Orangabad recorded the highest temperature of 40.0 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while Kishanganj recorded the lowest at 22.0 degrees Celsius. Six districts in Bihar recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.
The temperatures in different districts of Bihar were recorded as follows: Patna 36.7, Gaya 42.2, Bhagalpur 33.6, Purnia 32.6, Valmikinagar 36.6, Muzaffarpur 33.0, Chapra 38.7, Darbhanga 34.0, Supaul 32.7, Forbesganj 34.2, Motihari 35.6, Sheikhpura 37.6, Gopalganj 38.2, Jamui 35.7, Buxar 42.2, Bhojpur 40.3, Samastipur 33.0, Vaishali 36.3, Begusarai 32.2, Khagaria 32.9, Banka 34.0, Katihar 31.5, Nawada 37.0, Harnaut 39.3, Araria 32.2, Jiradei 37.8, Pusa 33.0, Kishanganj 32.0, Bikramganj 41.5, and Munger 34.1 degrees Celsius.
