**EVM Controversy in Gopalganj**
The Gopalganj parliamentary seat has always been in the limelight due to various controversies during elections. From the RJD supremo’s home district to the NOTA option, the results have always been noteworthy. In the 2019 elections, Gopalganj had the highest number of NOTA votes nationwide, but this time, Indore broke that record. Despite this, Gopalganj maintained its record of the highest NOTA votes on a state level, with 40 seats across the state giving the most NOTA votes in Gopalganj.
**Protest Against NOTA Votes**
In the early hours of the Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency, at booth number 367 in Mishrauli Primary School, voter Chandrashekhar Pandey expressed his opposition by giving his vote to NOTA. After the election results were announced on June 4th, NOTA surprised everyone and forced them to rethink. However, this time, NOTA received 8,797 fewer votes compared to the previous election. In the 2024 elections, NOTA received 42,863 votes, while in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it received 51,660 votes.
**History of NOTA in India**
The concept of NOTA was introduced in India on September 27, 2013, after a Supreme Court ruling. The aim was to encourage political parties to field clean candidates in the field. The option of NOTA on Electronic Voting Machines is available to voters who do not wish to support any political candidate. This allows them to exercise their right to abstain from voting without revealing their decision. The increasing number of NOTA votes indicates a growing dissatisfaction among voters towards the candidates.
