Pandit Ramkumar Mallik, a renowned artist of Dhrupad music, has passed away at the age of 73. He breathed his last on Saturday night at his ancestral home in the Amata village of Darbhanga district, Bihar, due to a cardiac arrest. Earlier this year, he was honored with the Padma Shri award for his contribution to the field of Dhrupad music. He was a disciple and son of Pandit Vidur Mallik and had achieved great mastery in the field of Dhrupad music of the Amata Gharana.
He showcased his singing talent on prestigious platforms both nationally and internationally. It is said that Pandit Ramkumar Mallik had earned accolades on various renowned stages for his melodious voice. In 2024, he was awarded the Padma Shri. He left behind his two daughters, Ruby and Rinki, and four sons, Santosh, Samit, Sahitya, and Sangit Mallik. Panditji had trained all his sons and disciples in the art of Dhrupad singing. His demise has left a wave of mourning not only in Darbhanga but throughout the Mithilanchal region.
