Patna Metro Rail Project Progress

Work on constructing tunnels in corridor-2 of the Patna Metro Rail project is progressing rapidly. After digging a 1494-meter tunnel between Moin Ul Haq Stadium station and Patna University station, Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)-1, also known as Mahavir, has now started working again. The TBM has begun its second journey after digging the first tunnel. Under Phase-I construction, TBM-1 will construct a 2302-meter-long tunnel between ISBT station and Patna Junction station, passing through Patna University Metro station to Gandhi Maidan via PMCH station.

Success of Mahavir ★The Tunnel Boring Machine

The Patna Metro project is using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to construct underground tunnels. Mahavir, also known as TBM-1, is a state-of-the-art machine that weighs as much as 60 African elephants. Equipped with modern navigation systems, Mahavir tunnels an average of 10 meters per day. Operated by an expert team, the tunneling work will continue underground while surface traffic and noise will be monitored by the Metro construction team.

Special Features of Mahavir

Mahavir, the TBM being used for the Patna Metro project, is a highly advanced machine designed for tunnel boring. With its impressive weight and cutting-edge technology, Mahavir is making significant progress in tunnel construction, marking a major success for the Patna Metro project. The use of TBMs like Mahavir demonstrates the commitment to modern infrastructure development and efficient construction methods in Patna.
