Pre-Monsoon Rainfall in Bihar

Pre-monsoon rainfall in Bihar has been below expectations, with only 14.4 mm of rainfall recorded so far as compared to the expected 42.7 mm. The state has experienced 66% less rainfall than normal, leading to hot and dry conditions for the common people as well as affecting the farmers adversely.

Monsoon Arrival Predictions

The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the monsoon is expected to arrive in Bihar by the night of June 16th. The monsoon clouds are expected to enter Bihar through Kishanganj and Purnia via the foothills of the Himalayas. Currently, the monsoon clouds are lingering over Islampur in West Bengal, but the weather conditions are expected to change soon, allowing the monsoon clouds to advance towards Bihar.

Impact of Delayed Monsoon in Bihar

The delayed onset of the monsoon in Bihar has been attributed to the weakening of the Bay of Bengal branch of the monsoon. This has resulted in reduced rainfall during the pre-monsoon season, leading to uncontrolled temperatures and fewer rainy days. As a result, states like Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh are facing heatwaves and extreme hot weather conditions, causing discomfort to the residents.
