Delayed Monsoon Arrival in Bihar

After four consecutive years, the monsoon is expected to arrive late in Bihar this year. While in the past four years, the monsoon entered Bihar on June 13 three times and on June 12 once, this year, the likelihood of its arrival around June 20 has been indicated. The branch of the monsoon headed towards Bihar has been stalled in Islampur, West Bengal, causing record-breaking heat in Bihar.

Historical Monsoon Data

According to IMD data, in the years 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, the monsoon arrived in Bihar on or around June 11-13. However, in 2009, it arrived on June 29, marking the latest arrival in the state. Senior scientist Dr. Ashish Kumar predicts that this year, the monsoon could enter Bihar via Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj around June 19-20.

Current Weather Alerts in Bihar

On June 16, severe heatwaves are expected in Bhojpur, Buxar, Bhabua, Rohtas, Aurangabad, and Arwal, prompting an orange alert. Maximum temperatures in these districts are predicted to range between 42°C and 44°C. Additionally, districts like Patna, Jehanabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Saran, and Siwan are also likely to experience intense heatwaves, with a yellow alert issued.
