Prabhat Expose: Building in Bhagalpur’s Sandis Compound taken over by agency

About a year ago, a building in Sandis Compound in Bhagalpur, which previously housed the district office of the Bihar Home Guards and the office of the Cricket Association, has now been completely taken over by an agency for the development of facilities under the Smart City project. The building now houses various rooms, including a maintenance office, cafeteria, restaurant, and accommodation for employees.

Unauthorized Occupation of Buildings a Common Practice for Agencies

This incident is not isolated, as unauthorized occupation of buildings by agencies seems to be a common practice in Bhagalpur. Last year, during an inspection by the Mayor, it was revealed that an agency was operating a night shelter in front of a hospital, meant for the Smart City project, which led to the eviction of the shelter.

Agency Officials Avoiding Questions Regarding Unauthorized Occupation

When contacted for a response regarding the unauthorized occupation, the agency’s director Rajiv Kumar initially listened to the query but disconnected the call when it came time to respond. Similar attempts to contact other officials, including the PR officer and the Joint Director of Public Relations, were met with no response, raising concerns about the transparency of the agency’s actions.
