Allegations of Spreading Fear and Misinformation
An employee of the Forest Department in Bettiah has accused his colleagues of spreading fear and creating a tense atmosphere in the region and among the general public by viral fake videos. An application has been filed to register a complaint at the Chanpatia police station.
Efforts to Protect Wild Animals
The forest department’s Rapid Response Team member Mukesh Kumar Ram stated that last month, a tiger had strayed from the Valmiki Tiger Reserve and was roaming outside the forest area. A team of 15 forest officials was monitoring the tiger daily and trying to guide it back towards the sanctuary.
Impact of False Social Media Messages
Some hackers downloaded photos of stray tigers from YouTube and edited them to create fake videos, which were then shared on social media platforms like Facebook. These misleading videos portrayed incidents of individuals being attacked by tigers in Chanpatia, causing panic among the public.
Request for Legal Action
The forest workers monitoring the tiger faced significant challenges due to false propaganda on social media. This not only caused distress to the forest officials but also created a fearful environment among the public. The forest employee has demanded legal action against the individuals responsible for spreading misinformation on Facebook.
