Supreme Court’s Historic Decision on Reservation
The Supreme Court on August 1st delivered a historic decision by allowing sub-categorization within the reserved category. The Constitution Bench pronounced the decision with a majority of 7-1. The issue of sub-categorization in reservation is gradually gaining momentum. In response to the reservation sub-categorization, RJD called it a fake Ambedkarite move and organized a protest march on Tuesday. The march was led by RJD MLA Satish Das from Makhdoompur in Jehanabad.
Opposition to Reservation Sub-Categorization
On Tuesday night, the national spokesperson of ‘Hum’, Engineer Nandlal Manjhi, issued a statement regarding the reservation issue. He stated that sub-categorization is justified within the reservation system. Those who have been enjoying the benefits of reservation for the past 76 years are now opposing sub-categorization. They are misleading the youth by claiming that reservation is being abolished. Such individuals are fake Ambedkarites and cannot end reservation, which is meant to benefit the youth from poor families.
Need for Sub-Categorization in Reservation
Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has supported the sub-categorization of reservation, stating that it is necessary to ensure that the benefits reach the intended communities. He emphasized that the leaders who have recommended sub-categorization have done so in the interest of the Scheduled Castes. The sub-categorization of reservation is essential to address the disparity in the distribution of benefits among different communities.
