Relief Efforts Underway as Gandak River Floods Affect West Champaran Villages, Community Kitchen Plans in Place

In West Champaran, heavy rains in Nepal have caused the Masan and Gandak rivers to overflow. The water level is rising rapidly, with about two lakh cusecs of water released from the Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage late last night. As a result, areas like Chakdhawa, Bean Toli, and Kanha Toli are experiencing flooding, making life difficult for the local residents.

The flooding is affecting several homes in Chakdhawa bin Toli village. Many residents are facing major issues as water has entered their houses. The rains have been continuous for two days, leading to severe flooding in the area. People are struggling with erosion and are calling for help as they deal with these challenges.

With the Gandak river water flowing onto roads, travel has become very tough for villagers. The main road from Bhedihari to Chakdahwa is submerged under 3 to 4 feet of water, disrupting daily activities. Villagers are expressing frustration as they feel there has been no timely assistance from local authorities or elected representatives.

The authorities have taken notice of the situation, with Bagaha 2 CO Ravi Prakash Chaudhary confirming a slight rise in the Gandak river’s water level. He mentioned that relief measures would be initiated based on the assessment by the concerned personnel. Residents on the river banks are being advised to move to higher ground as a precaution.

The local administration is prepared to respond to the crisis. If the situation worsens, there will be provisions for community kitchens to support those affected. The government is committed to managing the disaster effectively and ensuring the safety of all residents in the impacted areas.
