The festive season is here, and railway stations across India are buzzing with people. Many are heading home to celebrate with their families. To ensure safety and manage the large crowds, Indian Railways has introduced a five-point action plan, especially for busy stations in Delhi.
After a tragic incident earlier this year where many lives were lost in a stampede at New Delhi railway station, the Railways has taken serious steps to prevent such situations during festivals. They are focusing on high-traffic areas like New Delhi and Anand Vihar stations, limiting the number of passengers allowed on the platforms.
As part of the new measures, special trains will now run throughout the day, instead of just in the evening. This aims to spread out the crowd and avoid peak times. Additionally, five extra platforms will be opened at Anand Vihar and Shakurbasti to accommodate more passengers.
Another important change is that the number of special trains will be increased by 50%. A “train on demand” facility will also be available. A new holding area at New Delhi station is ready, which can accommodate 6,000 to 8,000 passengers at once, ensuring proper management before they board their trains.
Railway officials are assigned specific roles to implement this plan effectively. These measures are aimed not just at making travel easier during the festive season, but also at preventing any overcrowding issues, ensuring a safer journey for all.
