Patna Metro will face higher electricity costs as its request for cheaper rates has been denied.

Patna Metro is facing a big challenge as it will not get cheaper electricity rates. The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has decided that the metro will continue to pay the same rates as before, which means fares will likely go up.

The Commission rejected the metro’s argument that it doesn’t operate 24 hours a day, saying that it runs for about 16 hours daily. Since it charges higher fares than railways, the Commission found no reason to give it lower electricity rates.

This means that users of Patna Metro can expect higher ticket prices. The rates for electricity will be Rs 540 per KVA fixed charge and Rs 8.16 per unit. So, passengers may have to pay more when traveling on the metro.

Electricity usage is estimated to be around 200 kW at elevated stations and could reach up to 300 kW in the future. For underground stations, starting consumption is estimated at 1500 kW, increasing to 2000 kW. This decision means no discounts will be given on electricity rates.

Moving forward, Patna Metro will implement a Time of Day (TOD) system. This means electricity charges will vary based on the time of day. During off-peak hours, the metro will pay only 80% of the electricity charge, while peak hours will cost 120% of the normal rate.

Summary:

  • Patna Metro will not get cheaper electricity rates.

  • This will likely lead to higher fares for passengers.

  • The fixed charge for electricity is set at Rs 540 per KVA.

  • Electricity consumption estimates are significant for both elevated and underground stations.

  • A Time of Day system will change electricity charges based on peak and off-peak hours.
