This article shares updates on the expansion of air services in Bihar, including new airports and improvements in connectivity.
Bihar is getting ready to expand its air services! The government is moving forward with plans to build the state’s eighth airport in Raxaul. This airport will cover around 139 acres of land and will cost about Rs 207 crore to develop.
The airport will be built on the same lines as the Darbhanga and Purnia airports. This means the runway will be long enough, measuring 2740 meters, which will allow large aircraft to use it without any issues. Compensation for the land will be given to current landowners starting next month.
Additionally, there are plans to set up small airports in districts like Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, Valmiki Nagar, and Veerpur. The tender for Muzaffarpur Airport has already been issued, while land acquisition processes for Veerpur and Saharsa will start soon. A budget of Rs 45 crore is set aside for this project.
Besides these, the government is also planning to build two new airports in Bhagalpur and Nalanda. The Airports Authority of India has already surveyed these locations. The government has released funds for land acquisition, and this process will begin shortly.
Right now, Bihar has 25 airports and airstrips, with eight being major airports. The goal is to include these airports in the UDAN scheme, which will help improve their development and maintenance. The government is actively working to make this happen.
