Nitish Kumar has taken the oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth time on Thursday. The oath was given by the Governor, Arif Mohammad Khan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Patna airport around 11 AM to attend the swearing-in ceremony. After landing, he headed straight to Gandhi Maidan by helicopter for the event. This marks the first time Modi has attended Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony.
Nitish Kumar first became Chief Minister in the year 2000, though that government lasted just seven days. Since returning to power in 2005, he has been re-elected nine times, making this his tenth term. Notably, he has taken the oath five times since Modi became Prime Minister in 2014.
On Wednesday, Nitish Kumar met with the Governor to claim the right to form a new government and submitted his resignation. Following this, the Governor dissolved the 17th Bihar Assembly and invited him to form the new government. Political activities were vibrant throughout the day leading up to the oath-taking ceremony.
