In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old boy named Chandan Kumar was found dead in the Domadhar river after being missing for five days. He lived in South Muradpur Naya Tola Tinghadiya village, which comes under the Kursela police station area in Katihar district. The villagers discovered his body floating in the water early in the morning and immediately informed the police.
When the Kursela police arrived at the scene, they identified the body with the help of Chandan’s grandmother, Kari Mosamat. She confirmed it was her grandson. The police completed the necessary formalities and sent the body to Katihar Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Chandan’s parents, who both work as laborers, were too distraught to speak, and the family is in deep grief.
Chandan had been missing since November 20, and his family had already filed a missing person report with the Kursela police. After the body was found, Chandan’s maternal uncle, Munna Kumar, claimed that his nephew was kidnapped and murdered due to a loan dispute of ₹10,000, and accused that his body was thrown into the river.
The discovery of the body led to protests, with angry locals blocking State Highway 77 for about an hour. They placed the body on the road, causing long queues of vehicles. The police, along with local representatives, managed to clear the blockade after calming the crowd. The family is now demanding a thorough investigation into Chandan’s death and strong action against those responsible.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Kumar Singh announced that they have arrested the main accused in the case. He mentioned that initial investigations suggest it may be a personal dispute and assured that every detail will be thoroughly examined. The police are waiting for the post-mortem report to proceed further and have promised that justice will be served.
