The Indian Railways is making exciting changes for daily commuters in Bihar. They are setting up three new rail corridors that will connect directly to the upcoming ring rail network in Patna. This will help ease traffic in the city and provide relief to people who travel daily.
In these new corridors, significant stations from various districts like Buxar, Arrah, Lakhisarai, and Muzaffarpur are being carefully chosen. The plan is for a 260-kilometer track, with an estimated cost of around Rs 9,000 crore. A major part of this project will be a 10 km long rail bridge between Didarganj and Fathuha, which will run parallel to the existing six-lane bridge over the Ganga river.
Special local trains are expected to run on these corridors during morning and evening hours, making it easier for daily passengers to travel. There are also plans for long-distance trains in the afternoons when local traffic is lower. This will help improve travel between Central Bihar, North Bihar, and the Magadha region.
Three main corridors will be developed: the East-West Corridor connecting Buxar and Kiul, the North Corridor linking Fatuha, Patna, and Muzaffarpur, and the Central Corridor from Patna to Gaya via Nalanda. This extensive network is aimed at enhancing transportation and will support education, industry, and tourism in the area.
The next steps involve completing surveys and preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). Once approved, construction will begin, marking a significant upgrade in Bihar’s rail infrastructure.
