What’s inside:
This article shares updates on the famous Sonpur fair, including horse sales, other livestock markets, and security actions by the police.
The renowned Sonpur fair in the Harihar area is winding down this year. The Animal Husbandry Department reported that the horse market was buzzing with activity at the start, but now it’s quieting down. There are only 50 horses left for sale, while 2,049 have already been sold, proving that Sonpur remains a top spot for horse trading in India.
This year, horse prices have been quite stable. The most expensive horse sold for Rs 1.10 lakh, and some were available for as low as Rs 52,000. Buyers came for various reasons, whether it was for show horses or for those needed in farming, transport, or rural work. The fair caters to everyone.
As the fair comes to an end, fewer horse traders are around. The lively crowds have thinned, with empty ponds and fields showing the fair’s usual bustle is fading. However, traders who stayed until the end noted that business was better than in previous years, with more buyers attending.
While horse sales are declining, other livestock markets are still full of life. The goat market is thriving, with 540 goats present and 256 sold. Demand for goats often spikes during festivals and weddings, making this fair a great opportunity for local traders. The dog market is also gaining attention, with 411 dogs available and breeds like Labrador and Rottweiler being in high demand.
On the security front, the Saran Police have taken action against seven officers for being absent without permission during the fair. Their salaries have been frozen, and they must explain their absence. The police emphasize the importance of safety, especially during large events like this, where crowd management is crucial.
Summary:
- Sonpur fair is nearing its end, with fewer horses available.
- Horse prices remain stable, catering to various buyers.
- Other livestock markets, especially goats and dogs, are thriving.
- Police have taken action against officers for negligence during the fair.
- Safety measures are being reinforced for crowd management.
