The Bihar government is launching a new initiative where women will drive and conduct ‘Pink Buses’ for public transport, creating job opportunities for local women.

In a great move for women empowerment, the Bihar government has decided to let women operate the ‘Pink Buses’ in the state. This announcement was made by the Transport Minister, Shravan Kumar, during a meeting on November 26, 2025, in Patna.

The government is going to train ‘Jeevika Didis’ as drivers and conductors for these buses. This means women who are part of the Jeevika Group will have the chance to learn how to drive heavy vehicles and manage bus operations, boosting their employment prospects.

Currently, there are 100 pink buses running in Bihar, and the goal is to prepare 200 women for driving and conducting these buses. Women interested in this training can apply until December 15, 2025. The minimum qualification to apply for the driver position is passing the 8th grade, while for conductors, it is the 10th grade.

After completing their training at the ‘Institute of Driving Training and Research’ in Patna and Aurangabad, successful candidates will receive Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) licenses. They will then be appointed on a contract basis depending on available positions.

Furthermore, the Transport Minister emphasized the importance of road safety during the meeting. He instructed officials to ensure timely compensation for accident victims and to run campaigns promoting the use of helmets and seat belts to reduce road accidents.
