A train accident in Bihar was narrowly avoided due to no passengers being on board. Investigation into the derailment is ongoing.
A serious train accident was averted in Bihar on the last day of the year. Fortunately, there were no passengers on the goods train, which was carrying cement. If it had been a passenger train, the situation could have been much worse. Just 30 minutes before the goods train derailed, two passenger trains safely passed through the same tracks.
The accident happened when 17 bogies of the goods train derailed, with some falling into a river. Initial investigations revealed that a crack in the track near a railway bridge caused the derailment. The train was travelling at around 11 PM when the incident took place, and the track couldn’t handle the weight of the cement-laden train.
This incident raises concern for rail safety, especially since just before the goods train, the Raxaul-Howrah Mithila Express had passed the same route without any issues. It’s essential for passengers to stay informed about train statuses to avoid any disruptions in their travel plans.
Officials reported that 17 out of the train’s 42 coaches derailed, with eight of them falling into the Badua river and nine flipping over on the bridge itself. After the accident, the railway staff quickly began relief and restoration work, which continued into the following day.
The railway administration is actively working to clear the tracks and restore train services as soon as possible. They expect train operations to resume by Monday morning. Passengers are advised to check the status of their trains before heading out.
