Bihar is set to improve its road connectivity with new national highways and expressways in 2026.

2026 is going to be an exciting year for Bihar as it gears up for major improvements in roadways. The state, which has faced challenges with its infrastructure for a long time, will see the launch of a six-lane national highway and its first access-controlled highway. These developments promise to enhance the connectivity and travel experience for everyone.

One of the key projects is the Varanasi-Aurangabad six-lane road, which is almost complete and will open to the public this year. This highway will make traveling from Bihar to Delhi via Uttar Pradesh much smoother and quicker. Additionally, a six-lane road connecting Aurangabad to Chordaha is being built to boost links with Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Another significant milestone for Bihar in 2026 is the completion of the access-controlled highway between Amas and Darbhanga. Although the initial target was 2025, the new deadline is set for this year. Other projects like the two-lane roads from Chakia to Bairgania and Parasarma to Saharsa-Mahishi will also be finished soon.

The Central Government has also granted expressway status to the Patna-Purnia road, allowing work to begin as soon as financial approval is granted. Additionally, projects like the Gorakhpur-Siliguri and Raxaul-Haldia Expressways are expected to start soon, along with the Patna-Ara-Sasaram Access Controlled Highway.

Beyond these, further developments like the Gaya-Biharsharif four-lane road and the largest bridge on the Gandak river will commence this year. Overall, 2026 looks promising for Bihar, with several projects expected to transform the state’s road network and boost development.

Summary:

  • Bihar will see new national highways and expressways in 2026.

  • The Varanasi-Aurangabad highway will enhance travel to Delhi.

  • The Amas-Darbhanga access-controlled highway will be completed.
