Bihar government has banned Jugaad vehicles, which are unsafe and illegal, to ensure road safety.
In a recent update, the Bihar government has decided to ban ‘Jugaad’ vehicles from the roads. These vehicles, often made from diesel pump sets and motorcycle parts, will no longer be allowed to operate in the state. The Transport and Rural Development Minister, Shravan Kumar, has given strict orders to enforce this ban.
Minister Shravan Kumar explained that these Jugaad vehicles do not follow safety rules set by the Motor Vehicles Act. They are not registered and lack necessary fitness or pollution certificates. This means they not only pose a risk to the environment but also contribute to traffic jams and accidents on the roads.
The government has made it clear that Jugaad vehicles are not insured. In case of an accident, neither the owner of the vehicle nor the victim will receive any government compensation. The Minister emphasized that using these vehicles is a serious offense and poses a danger to public safety.
To support those affected by this ban, the government is offering a way forward. Drivers can apply for self-employment under the ‘Chief Minister Block Transport Scheme’ and ‘Gram Transport Scheme’. These schemes provide financial help for buying legal and safe vehicles, allowing drivers to earn a living in a respectable manner.
The Transport Department is also planning special checking campaigns across highways and urban areas. All District Transport Officers will keep track of how many Jugaad vehicles are seized. The aim is to clear the roads of these unsafe vehicles in the coming weeks.
