What’s inside:
This article talks about the traffic situation in Patna and the government’s plans to manage e-rickshaws better.
Traffic in Patna is quite manageable these days, but there are still issues with how things are being run. The main problem comes from e-rickshaws that are everywhere and don’t follow traffic rules. In response, the Transport Department and Traffic Administration have decided to take action starting from February to organize e-rickshaw operations properly.
Currently, there are around 26,000 CNG auto-rickshaws and 15,000 e-rickshaws on Patna’s roads. The plan is to limit about 8,000 e-rickshaws to smaller routes in the city while sending 7,000 out of the city. Additionally, 5,000 autos will also be removed from the city and redirected to nearby blocks, aiming to restore order to the streets.
The government is looking to set up around 10 authorized stands for e-rickshaws in the Patna Municipal Corporation area. They are surveying locations for this, but there are concerns whether this will lead to real changes or just stay as paperwork. Currently, drivers have created about 80 illegal stands, causing traffic jams at major intersections across the city.
Illegal stands have taken over key areas like Patna Junction and Gandhi Maidan, making it hard for people to get around. Every year, about 2,000 new e-rickshaws are registered, but no clear rules are in place for their operation yet. This raises questions about the effectiveness of the administration in managing traffic.
It remains to be seen if the plans announced in February will actually make a difference on the roads of Patna. Otherwise, traffic jams will continue, and people will keep questioning how the system is managed.
Summary:
- Traffic jams in Patna are still an issue due to e-rickshaws.
- The government plans to limit e-rickshaws to specific routes.
- New authorized stands for e-rickshaws are being planned.
- Illegal stands are causing major traffic problems in the city.
- Future actions by the government will determine traffic management success.
