Bihar to Launch Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims, Aiming to Reduce Fatalities and Improve Medical Response

The Indian government is set to introduce a major initiative aimed at saving lives in road accidents. On Thursday, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon launch a cashless treatment scheme for victims of road accidents throughout the country.

This scheme will apply to all types of road accidents involving motor vehicles, whether they happen on highways or rural roads. Under this plan, anyone injured in a road accident will receive free treatment at designated hospitals across India. They can avail cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh within the first seven days after the accident, which is crucial for their recovery.

The government has mentioned that this new plan is different from the existing Ayushman Bharat scheme. In cases of accidents involving uninsured vehicles, the government will provide financial support. For the financial year 2025-26, a budget of ₹272 crore has been set aside specifically for such road accident cases.

Nitin Gadkari emphasized that this initiative aims to ensure timely medical assistance, which can significantly lower the number of fatalities from road accidents. He confirmed that any victim of a road accident involving a motor vehicle will be eligible for cashless treatment under this scheme.

In recent discussions among transport ministers, the government highlighted various issues, including road safety and passenger convenience. They believe that this scheme will not only help citizens but also improve the overall road safety system in India. If implemented well, it is expected to lead to a notable decrease in the number of deaths from road accidents.
