A major accident was averted on the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday morning. A sleeper coach bus traveling from Banda to Delhi caught fire, but fortunately, all 50 passengers on board were safely evacuated in time. The incident started after a tire burst.

How the Fire Started and What Happened

The Raj Kamal Sanskar Travels bus from Banda was heading towards Delhi via Kanpur. Around 5 AM on Thursday morning, a tire on the bus burst. The driver did not stop the bus immediately and continued driving for some distance. Soon, smoke filled the bus, and then the flames engulfed the entire vehicle.

Passengers Safely Evacuated

Panic ensued among the passengers after the fire broke out. Upon hearing the shouts, the driver and conductor stopped the bus. All 50 passengers on board were quickly evacuated from the burning bus. Although some passenger luggage was destroyed in the fire, everyone’s lives were saved.

Negligent Driver and Conductor Flee the Scene

Following the incident, the bus driver and conductor fled the scene. Passengers reported that the driver did not stop the bus even after the tire burst, which allowed the fire to spread so rapidly. Police are now searching for the driver and conductor.

Previous Accidents on Yamuna Expressway

The Yamuna Expressway has witnessed several such accidents in the past. On December 16, 2021, 18 people lost their lives in a collision involving 11 vehicles here. Accidents due to weak tires and high speed continue to occur regularly, highlighting the need to learn lessons from these incidents.
