The investigation into the tragic death of software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Greater Noida has intensified with the arrest of two more builders. Mehta drowned after his car plunged into a water-filled pit at a construction site. These arrests underscore the authorities’ commitment to addressing negligence and enforcing safety standards in the construction industry.

Third Arrests Made in Yuvraj Mehta Case

Ravi Bansal and Sachin Karnwal, both associated with Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited, were taken into custody by police on January 22, 2026. Their arrests follow that of Abhay Kumar, the director of MZ Wiztown Planners, who was apprehended two days earlier on January 20, 2026. The three individuals are facing severe charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing death by negligence. The incident occurred on the night of January 16-17, 2026, when 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta’s car fell into a 30-foot deep, water-filled pit at a basement construction site in Greater Noida’s Sector 150. An autopsy confirmed that Mehta died due to asphyxiation and heart failure.

Company Offices Sealed Amid Environmental Violation Probe

In a robust response to the tragedy, the district administration has moved to seal the corporate offices of both Lotus Greens Pvt Ltd and MZ Wiztown Planners. Furthermore, a separate FIR has been registered against five officials for failing to comply with environmental and pollution control norms at the construction site. The serious nature of the incident has also drawn the attention of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which has taken suo motu cognisance and has demanded explanations from relevant state and local authorities regarding the safety lapses.

New Safety Initiatives Launched by Local Administration

Responding to public outcry and the need for enhanced safety, the Gautam Budh Nagar administration has launched a thorough review of safety protocols at all construction sites. A WhatsApp helpline (9205559204) has been established to enable citizens to report any hazardous construction zones directly. The Greater Noida Authority has also mandated an immediate upgrade of road safety measures in the area. Builders found in violation of safety standards have previously faced significant penalties from the authority, with fines ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹10 lakh, highlighting the existing regulatory framework that needs strict enforcement.
