BJP MP Gopal Ji Thakur from Darbhanga, Bihar, raised concerns in Parliament about the slow progress of the Amas-Darbhanga Expressway. He emphasized that the construction, which costs around ₹12,000 crores, has been delayed for years. He asked when the project will be finished and if it will extend to Nepal.
In response, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, informed that currently, about 25% of the work is done. He assured that the expressway operations are expected to start by December 2026 and that an expansion is on the way.
Thakur also pointed out that work on a crucial 15 km stretch of National Highway 527B, which connects Darbhanga to Jaynagar, has been pending for years. He raised concerns about the slow pace of the Darbhanga Elevated Corridor and the Darbhanga Railway Over Bridge (ROB) projects.
Ajay Tamta clarified that the Darbhanga-Jaynagar project is approved, and work will proceed soon. He mentioned that the Darbhanga Corridor and ROB projects are awaiting state government approval since they are not part of the National Highway.
The Amas-Darbhanga Expressway is set to be Bihar’s first greenfield expressway, spanning 189 km. Once completed, it will significantly reduce travel time from Patna to Darbhanga by four hours, improving the region’s connectivity and boosting economic development.
