A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Chennai involving a family from Bihar who went there in search of livelihood. A young man named Gaurav Kumar, his wife, and their two-year-old child were targeted in a brutal attack just days after reaching the city. Police have recovered the bodies of the man and the child, but the wife remains missing. The investigation suggests that the family was killed after the husband opposed an attempt by the accused to harass his wife.

How did the incident take place?

Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Sheikhpura in Bihar, had arrived in Chennai on January 16, 2026, with his wife Munita and son Guddu. They came to the city hoping for a job which was promised by an acquaintance named Upendra Yadav. The family was staying near a Polytechnic College in Taramani during their initial days.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on January 25. The accused individuals were drinking alcohol and reportedly tried to misbehave with Munita Kumari. When Gaurav strongly resisted their advances, the group attacked and killed him. To hide their crime and destroy evidence, they allegedly killed the wife and the small child as well.

Recovery of bodies and police action

The crime came to light when Gaurav’s body was found in a blood-stained sack near a motorcycle showroom in Indira Nagar on January 26. Following leads from a paper found in his pocket, police identified him and contacted his brother. Later, the body of the two-year-old child was recovered from the Cooum River near Madhya Kailash.

The Chennai Adyar Police have formed five special teams to handle this case. They have detained about 5 to 7 people, including the main suspect Upendra Yadav and others named Sikandar and Narendra. A massive search operation is currently underway at the Perungudi dumpyard to find the body of the missing woman, which the accused claim to have disposed of in the trash.
