Sitamarhi Road Construction Resumes After Community Protests, Promising Relief from Long-Standing Waterlogging Issues

In Sitamarhi’s Fair Road Ward No. 13, residents are facing serious problems with water logging and bad roads. Recently, the situation became tense when Dr. Manoj Kumar, the husband of local MLC Rekha Kumari, ordered the halt of ongoing road construction work. This led to a large protest outside the MLC’s residence as locals expressed their anger over the continued poor condition of their roads.

People in the area claim that Dr. Manoj Kumar often disrupts development work when his personal interests are not met. The locals have been struggling with waterlogged roads for a long time, and many have fallen and injured themselves due to the bad conditions. They also accuse him of demanding a 30 percent commission from contractors, which has caused delays in road work.

The road in question has been under construction for about five months, and residents are frustrated with the lack of progress. They say that instead of helping, their elected representatives are making matters worse. After hearing about the protests, officials from BUDCO, the agency in charge of the construction, arrived to meet the residents and discuss the situation.

BUDCO officials confirmed that the construction was paused due to the demand for land measurements by Dr. Manoj Kumar. After the necessary measurements were taken, work has resumed. The project involves building a 500-meter long road, which is expected to be completed within three months at a cost of around Rs 55 lakh.

Local residents have raised concerns about the state of the road and the drainage system. They feel that the issues should have been addressed before any construction began. BUDCO has assured that the work will be completed on time and will benefit the community.
