Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026-27 on Sunday with a strong focus on education and healthcare infrastructure. The government has decided to improve facilities in schools and support traditional medicine systems across the country. New hostels for girls and advanced labs for students are the main highlights of this budget presentation.

Major Announcements for Education Sector
The government will set up Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) labs in 15,000 secondary schools. These labs will also be established in 500 colleges to help students learn modern creative skills. This initiative will be supported by the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, Mumbai.
To help female students from rural and semi-urban areas, the Finance Minister announced that one girls’ hostel will be built in every district across India. This step aims to improve safety and access to education for girls. Additionally, a new National Institute of Design (NID) will be established in Eastern India.
Health and Veterinary Sector Updates
The Finance Minister proposed setting up 3 new All India Institutes of Ayurveda to boost traditional medicine. The WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, will get upgrades to promote better research. The government also plans to upgrade Ayush pharmacies and drug testing laboratories.
There is a new scheme for the veterinary sector as well. A loan-linked capital subsidy will be provided to private veterinary institutions and hospitals. This support aims to add over 20,000 veterinary professionals to the workforce and improve animal care facilities.
