Bihar Police has started a major crackdown on the playing of obscene and vulgar songs in public places across the state. With festivals like Holi and Mahashivratri approaching, the police headquarters has issued strict orders to stop this nuisance. Drivers of buses, autos, and DJ operators have been warned that playing lewd music is now a serious crime and will invite direct legal action.
What is the punishment under the new law?
The police are now taking action under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Officers are registering FIRs under Section 296 for public obscenity and Section 79 for insulting the dignity of women. If a person is caught playing or promoting such songs, they can face imprisonment of up to one year. A heavy fine will also be imposed on the violators without any prior warning.
How can common people report this?
Bihar Police has asked citizens to help in this campaign to maintain a clean social environment. If you hear obscene songs playing in your area or in public transport, you can immediately report it by dialing 112. You can also visit the nearest police station to lodge a complaint. The police have assured that the identity of the person making the complaint will be kept completely confidential.
