Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to upgrade his official fleet with high-security luxury vehicles. The state government has initiated the purchase of four bulletproof Range Rover SUVs for the Chief Minister’s convoy. This move marks a shift from his usual electric vehicles to heavy-duty security cars. The decision comes after a specific security assessment regarding VVIP movements in the state and aims to strengthen the safety of top leaders.

What is the price and special features of these cars?

The state government has sanctioned a total budget of ₹11.17 crore for these four vehicles. Each bulletproof Range Rover is priced at approximately ₹2.79 crore. These vehicles come with factory-fitted ballistic protection capable of withstanding heavy fire, including attacks from AK-47 rifles and explosives. This upgrade is significantly more expensive than the CM’s previous Hyundai Ioniq 5, which cost around ₹50 lakh.

Who will use these vehicles and when was it approved?

The proposal for these high-security vehicles was officially cleared in July 2025 by the Home Department. These cars are designated for individuals protected under the Z+ security category. Along with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary is also likely to use one of these units. The Transport Department has now started the procurement process following the recent state budget announcement.
