The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the upcoming Varanasi to Siliguri bullet train is set to be completed within the next six months. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has indicated that this high-speed corridor is a priority project. Once this train starts running, the travel time between Varanasi and Siliguri will drop significantly to just 2 hours and 55 minutes. The train is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 350 km per hour.

What are the plans for Patna station?

A significant portion of the track will pass through the Patna district. To avoid traffic congestion on the ground, a 65 km long elevated track will be constructed in Patna. The tracks will be raised at a height of 12 to 15 meters. The main station for the bullet train in Patna will be built near AIIMS in Phulwari Sharif. This ensures that the high-speed rail does not disrupt the daily movement of people in the city.

Land acquisition and compensation details

The authorities have identified about 138 hectares of land needed for the project in Patna alone. The track will pass through roughly 60 villages across blocks like Danapur, Phulwarisharif, and Bikram. Landowners will receive compensation based on the location of their land. Rural landowners will get four times the circle rate, while urban landowners will receive two times the circle rate. The plan also focuses on saving the environment by transplanting trees instead of cutting them down.
