A dramatic scene unfolded in Gopalganj’s Baikuntpur area on Tuesday afternoon. A young man had just withdrawn Rs 2.5 lakh from the State Bank of India branch when criminals on a bike snatched the money. However, local people showed great courage and chased down one of the robbers right on the spot.

How did the public catch the criminal?
The incident took place in the Dighwa Duboli area. As soon as the criminals snatched the cash and tried to flee towards the Eastern Railway Crossing, the victim raised an alarm. Villagers nearby reacted immediately and chased the bike. They managed to catch one criminal, while his accomplice escaped. A pistol was later found hidden in the bushes at the scene.

Police have identified the arrested man as an active member of the notorious Kodha gang. This gang operates from Jurabganj in Katihar and specifically targets people carrying cash from banks. They usually keep a watch on customers withdrawing large amounts and consider those carrying plastic or cloth bags as easy targets. Police are now questioning the arrested suspect to find his partner.
