The long wait for a water-based transport system in Patna is coming to an end. The Patna Water Metro is set to launch its operations this month. This project connects different parts of the city through the Ganga river. The Inland Waterways Authority of India and the Bihar Government are working together on this Rs 908 crore initiative. The goal is to provide a clean and fast travel option that reduces traffic on the city roads.

What is the route for the Water Metro?

The Water Metro will operate on a 21-kilometer corridor. The service starts from Digha Ghat and goes up to Kangan Ghat. During this journey, the boats will stop at two major locations. These stops are Gandhi Ghat and Gaya Ghat. This route covers key areas of the city and offers a traffic-free travel option for daily commuters. The Jal Marg Vikas Project is also progressing well, with significant completion already achieved.

What are the features of the boats?

The boats introduced for this service are modern and electric. They are fully air-conditioned to ensure passenger comfort. Each boat has a seating capacity of 50 people. Additionally, 25 passengers can travel while standing. The first vessel, named MV Gomadharkonwar, arrived from Kolkata specifically for the trial runs. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation will manage the operations.
