Independent Member of Parliament from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, was arrested by the Patna Police on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. A heavy police force arrived at his residence in the Mandiri area around 10:00 PM and officially took him into custody by midnight. The arrest was executed following strict orders from a special court regarding a very old legal matter.

Why Was the MP Arrested After 31 Years?
The police action is connected to a case originally filed in 1995 at the Gardanibagh Police Station. A landlord named Vinod Bihari Lal had lodged a complaint alleging that Pappu Yadav rented a house for residential use but later converted it into a political office without consent. The charges included forgery and house trespass. Recently, the Special MP-MLA court issued a property attachment warrant (Kurki-Japti) because the MP had reportedly failed to appear for court hearings. Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma stated that the team simply followed the court’s mandate.
What Happened During the Police Operation?
More than 50 police personnel from five different stations were deployed for this operation. After being taken into custody, Pappu Yadav was immediately moved to IGIMS hospital for a medical examination, where he spent the night. On Saturday morning, officials shifted him to PMCH for further treatment after he complained of health issues. He is scheduled to be produced before the Special MP-MLA Court in Patna later today.
