Patna Divisional Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar held a major review meeting on Friday regarding the traffic management of the state capital. He has issued strict orders to make all footpaths barrier-free for the safety of pedestrians. The administration will now take strong action against encroachments and illegal parking to ensure roads remain jam-free. Special focus is being given to the convenience of women, children, and the elderly who use these footpaths daily.

What are the new directives for city traffic?

The Commissioner has directed officials to implement a zero-tolerance policy against footpath encroachment. ‘No Parking’ and ‘No Vending’ zones are being marked across the city to prevent congestion. Unnecessary road cuts will be closed to stop sudden U-turns that cause jams. Zebra crossings will be constructed at major intersections to help people cross roads safely. The goal is to keep the traffic flow smooth and organized.

What are the fines and enforcement plans?

To ensure everyone follows the rules, CCTV cameras will be used to catch offenders. On-the-spot fines will be issued for wrong-side driving and parking in restricted areas. If carts or shops are found on the road, their goods will be seized by the Municipal Corporation. The police have been asked to strictly enforce one-way traffic rules in crowded areas.

Violation Type Fine Amount
Wrong Parking ₹500 – ₹1,000
Driving Without License ₹5,000
General Traffic Violation ₹500

How will the administration implement this?

This drive involves coordination between the Urban Development Department, Traffic Police, and local administration. Public announcements are already being made via loudspeakers at busy squares to warn people about the new zones. The Traffic SP has been asked to identify specific road stretches where this pilot project will start immediately. This is part of a larger plan to fix drainage and traffic issues before the monsoon season.
