On February 8, 2026, a new report by Trustified shared blind lab test results for popular pasteurized cow milk brands sold in India. The tests included samples from Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Mother Dairy, and Country Delight purchased from various states. According to the findings, several pouch milk samples failed to meet the safety limits set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) due to high bacterial counts.

Which brands failed the safety test?
The lab report highlighted significant issues with pouch packaging across major brands. Amul Taaza reportedly contained coliform bacteria levels 98 times higher than the permissible limit. Mother Dairy Cow Milk showed a Total Plate Count (TPC) of 240,000 CFU/ml, which is eight times the FSSAI cap of 30,000 CFU/ml. Country Delight Cow Milk was also found to have a count of 60,000 CFU/ml, doubling the allowed limit.
Did any milk brand pass the test?
While the pouch versions faced scrutiny, the report noted that Amul’s tetra-pack milk passed the lab tests cleanly. The tetra-pack version showed zero microorganisms, likely due to the stronger Ultra-High Temperature (UHT) processing used for these cartons. This suggests a difference in safety levels between standard plastic pouches and tetra-pack packaging for the same brand.
Have the companies responded yet?
As of now, brands like Amul, Mother Dairy, and Country Delight have not issued official statements regarding these specific test results from February 8. In previous instances, such as with Amul Masti Dahi, the company dismissed similar social media claims as misinformation and affirmed their adherence to FSSAI standards. Consumers are currently looking for clarification while some are switching to tetra packs or ensuring milk is boiled thoroughly before consumption.
