The Bihar government has announced a significant financial boost for the farmers of the state under a new initiative. Named the ‘Jan Nayak Karpuri Thakur Kisan Samman Nidhi’, this scheme aims to provide additional monetary support to those engaged in agriculture. Farmers who are currently receiving benefits under the central PM-Kisan scheme will now get an extra Rs 3,000 annually from the state government. With this addition, the total annual financial assistance for eligible farmers in Bihar will increase from Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.

Payment Structure and Installment Details

The state government has designed the payment method to align with the existing central framework. The additional Rs 3,000 will be disbursed in three separate installments of Rs 1,000 each. These transfers will occur every four months, synchronized with the release of the PM-Kisan installments. The funds will be sent directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method. This new system is set to become operational from April 2026, marking the beginning of the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Mandatory Registration and Farmer ID

To receive these benefits, the government has implemented strict registration rules. It is now mandatory for farmers to have a ‘Farmer ID’ through the Farmer Registry. Recent data indicates that only 45% of the approximately 73 lakh targeted farmers have completed this process so far. Farmers need to ensure their land records and e-KYC are updated and linked to Aadhaar. Registration can be done via the official portal bhfr.agristack.gov.in or by visiting special camps currently being organized at the Panchayat level and Vasudha Kendras across the state.
