A sensation gripped the Jitwarpur area of Samastipur, Bihar, after the body of a lodge owner was found hanging in his room. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Gaurav Kumar. The incident took place on Friday, February 13, 2026. Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery and have sent the body to the Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
What did the police find at the scene?
According to the police reports, the body was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room at the lodge. SHO Ajit Prasad Singh stated that the door of the room was locked from the inside when the team arrived.
Prima facie, the police suspect this to be a case of suicide because of the locked door. However, authorities are not ruling out other possibilities. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has collected samples from the location, and officers are currently examining the mobile phone found in the room as part of the ongoing investigation.
What is the family saying about the incident?
Gaurav’s wife, Sangam Kumari, has expressed strong suspicion regarding the circumstances of her husband’s death. She revealed that she had been staying at her maternal home with their children for the past three to four months. According to her, she spoke to Gaurav just a day before the incident, and everything seemed normal during their conversation.
Sangam Kumari mentioned that while her husband often remained under stress, there were no major disputes that would lead to such a step. She has raised fears that this could be a murder. The police have stated that further legal action will be taken based on the application submitted by the family and the findings of the postmortem report.
