The Bihar government has taken a major step to improve connectivity across the state by planning air services for eight specific districts. On February 15, 2026, the state administration authorized a pre-feasibility study to check if running small aircraft in these areas is possible. To move this forward, ₹3.64 crore has been released to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct surveys and examine the geographical suitability of these locations.

Which Districts Are Included in This Plan?
The primary goal is to link border areas and underdeveloped regions with the main cities. The plan focuses on operating 19-seater small aircraft which are suitable for shorter runways. The government has identified the following districts for this potential service:
- Madhubani
- Birpur (Supaul)
- Munger
- Valmikinagar (West Champaran)
- Bhagalpur
- Saharsa
- Motihari
- Chhapra
What are the Rules and Ticket Pricing?
Currently, the project is in the study phase where officials will check land availability and safety standards. Once the feasibility report is ready, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be made for infrastructure development. Regarding the cost for passengers, the project falls under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme. This means fares for a certain number of seats will be capped to keep them affordable for the general public. The newly formed Bihar Civil Aviation Department is overseeing this initiative to ensure better access for medical emergencies and tourism.
