The Bihar government has delivered a major update for women waiting for benefits under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana. Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar officially announced in the Legislative Assembly that every woman who has applied for this scheme will receive the funds. This assurance came as the Assembly passed a significant budget of ₹23,701.17 crore for the Rural Development Department for the financial year 2026-27.

How will the money reach the beneficiaries?
The scheme, often called the ‘Das Hazari’ scheme by locals, is designed to help women start their own small businesses like tailoring or grocery shops. The government has allocated ₹9,000 crore specifically for this purpose.
- Initial Help: Every selected applicant receives a direct transfer of ₹10,000 to start their work.
- Performance Bonus: If a woman manages her business well, she is eligible for further help up to ₹2 lakh.
- Installment Plan: The additional money is released in stages of ₹10,000, ₹20,000, ₹40,000, ₹80,000, and ₹60,000 based on progress.
- Recent Transfer: Just recently, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred funds to 25 lakh women in a single day.
What are the new targets for rural housing?
Apart from employment, the department is focusing on providing permanent homes to the poor. The minister stated that a list of 1.04 crore rural families has been prepared for pucca houses. Bihar has received a target to build 12.19 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) for the coming years, which is the highest allocation for any state in the country. Additionally, about 20 lakh landless villagers have already submitted their applications to get a roof over their heads.
