Western Railway has announced a significant update for passengers planning to travel during the upcoming Holi festival. To handle the extra rush of travelers moving from Gujarat to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Ahmedabad Division has officially extended the trips of three special trains. This move aims to provide confirmed seats to more passengers during the busy festive season and reduce the heavy crowd typically seen on these routes.
Which Special Trains Have Been Extended?
Official announcements confirm that the service period for trains running from Ahmedabad and Gandhidham has been increased. These trains connect major cities in Gujarat to destinations like Patna, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur. The extension covers dates up to late March 2026.
| Train No. | Route | Extended Until |
|---|---|---|
| 09465 | Ahmedabad โ Darbhanga | March 27, 2026 |
| 09447 | Ahmedabad โ Patna | March 25, 2026 |
| 09451 | Gandhidham โ Bhagalpur | March 27, 2026 |
The return services for these trains have also been extended accordingly. For instance, the return train from Darbhanga will run until March 30, and the return service from Patna will operate until March 27. Passengers should note that these trains travel via major stations like Agra Fort, Kota, Lucknow, and Muzaffarpur depending on the specific route.
Booking Rules and Ticket Pricing
Booking for these extended trips officially started on February 18, 2026. Passengers can book their tickets at any Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter or online through the IRCTC website. Travelers must remember that these are classified as Special Trains on Special Fare, which means the ticket prices are slightly higher than regular mail or express trains.
Vineet Abhishek, the CPRO of Western Railway, mentioned that these steps are taken to improve passenger convenience during the festival. It is advisable to check the real-time schedule on the enquiry website before leaving for the station.
