The long-awaited Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur Ganga bridge is now officially scheduled to be ready for the public by June 2027. Recent reviews by the Road Construction Department and Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) have confirmed this new timeline. This massive infrastructure project is designed to create a smoother direct link between North and South Bihar, offering relief to thousands of daily commuters who currently face heavy traffic on existing routes.

Current Status of Construction Work

As of March 2026, approximately 65 to 70 percent of the total project work has been completed. The construction teams are working rapidly to finish the remaining structures. Out of the 46 piers required for the bridge, 45 are already fully constructed, with work on the final pier (Pier-23) currently in progress.

Officials have confirmed that 16.2 kilometers of the approach road from Chaklalshahi to the Tajpur section in Samastipur is already finished. The government has issued strict instructions to the private contractor, Navayuga Jahnavi Toll Bridge Private Limited, to speed up the casting and erection of bridge segments to ensure no further deadlines are missed.

Route Connectivity and Benefits

This bridge will serve as a vital lifeline connecting NH-31 at Bakhtiyarpur with NH-28 at Tajpur. Once operational, it will significantly reduce the travel time for people moving between northern districts like Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur and southern districts such as Patna, Gaya, and Nalanda. Experts believe this new route will drastically cut down the traffic load on the aging Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu.

Key Project Details:
