A major road accident occurred in the Ziradei police station area of Siwan district late Friday night. A speeding pickup truck rammed into a police patrol vehicle, causing it to overturn into a roadside ditch. Three police personnel, including a Sub-Inspector, were injured in the crash while the pickup driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.
How did the accident happen?
The incident took place near the Khargi Rampur tri-junction, locally known as Teemohini. The police team was on night patrol and had parked their Thar vehicle at the junction to keep a watch on the area. According to reports, a pickup truck coming at a high speed hit the stationary police vehicle from behind.
The impact was strong enough to push the police Thar off the road, and it overturned into a nearby ditch. Sub-Inspector Vivek Kumar stated that he managed to pull himself out after the crash and then helped rescue the driver and the guard who were trapped inside.
Who was injured in the crash?
Three people sustained injuries during this accident. The injured include Sub-Inspector Vivek Kumar, the police vehicle driver Suresh Kumar, and Home Guard Ashok Kumar Singh. Another constable named Nandlal, who was also present with the team, escaped without any injuries.
All the injured personnel were rushed to Sadar Hospital in Siwan by a team from the Ziradei police station. They received emergency medical treatment and are currently under observation.
What is the current status of the investigation?
Superintendent of Police (SP) Puran Kumar Jha visited the accident site to inspect the situation personally. He stated that the primary cause of the accident appears to be the negligence of the pickup truck driver.
The police have launched a search operation to identify and seize the vehicle involved. Efforts are being made to track down the driver who escaped with the pickup truck right after the incident.
