Details of the Police Operation
The incident occurred on March 7, 2026, during a patrolling drive by the Durgavati Police Station team. Officers spotted suspicious movement near Khajura village and intercepted the bike riders for questioning. Upon inspection, the police recovered the illicit liquor hidden with them.
Both accused are residents of the Durgavati police station area itself. The police immediately seized the motorcycle used for the crime. This arrest is part of a larger crackdown in the district, where officials are keeping a strict watch on transit points to prevent alcohol smuggling from neighboring areas.
Strict Action Against Liquor Smuggling
Under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, transporting or selling liquor is treated as a serious offense. While recent rules allow some relief for first-time consumers upon payment of a fine, those classified as ‘smugglers’ or ‘traders’ face mandatory imprisonment.
The seized vehicle is also subject to confiscation by the state. According to recent legal norms, seized vehicles can sometimes be released on interim custody, but the owner must pay a heavy penalty, often calculated as a percentage of the vehicle’s insured value. The police have emphasized that such drives will continue to keep the area alcohol-free.
