What Happened at Bihta-Khagaul Road?

The accident occurred when the two youths were traveling on a bike to deliver wedding cards to relatives. According to eyewitnesses, a speeding tractor lost control and collided with them. The driver of the tractor fled the scene immediately after the crash. Angered by the reckless driving and the loss of life, local residents gathered in large numbers and blocked the Bihta-Khagaul road.

This roadblock created a massive traffic jam on a route that is already sensitive due to ongoing construction work. Reports indicate that this road has been under partial diversion for the Danapur-Bihta elevated corridor project, which is scheduled to continue until July 2026. Police officials, including the Danapur Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), reached the spot to talk to the protesters and clear the traffic.

Compensation and Government Rules

The local administration has assured the victims’ families that they will receive support under the Bihar state policies updated earlier this year. Authorities have promised to expedite the process so the grieving family does not face administrative delays.

  • Death Compensation: Dependents of road accident victims are eligible for an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh, typically processed within 15 days.
  • Medical Aid: The state covers up to ₹1.5 lakh for cashless treatment of accident victims during the ‘Golden Hour’.
  • Strict Action: Officials reiterated that commercial tractors operating without valid permits or with minor drivers will face vehicle seizure and license cancellation.
