Patna Police conducted a massive raid against illegal liquor manufacturing units in the Gaurichak police station area of Phulwari Sharif. The operation was led by Trainee IPS officer Sushma Sagar, who recently took charge as the Station House Officer. During the crackdown, the police targeted multiple dens in Mustafapur and Uran Tola to break down the illegal brewing network.
What was recovered during the police raid?
The police team carried out extensive searches in the riverine and peripheral areas of Patna. They physically dismantled several active furnaces used for brewing country-made alcohol. Here are the exact details of the police action:
- Semi-finished liquor: Around 1,000 liters of raw wash meant for fermentation was destroyed on the spot.
- Brewed liquor: The team seized 65 liters of prepared country-made alcohol commonly known as chulai.
- Infrastructure: Multiple illegal setups and brewing equipment were completely demolished by the field operation team.
Why are Trainee IPS officers leading such operations?
IPS Sushma Sagar is a 2023-batch officer who took charge as the Gaurichak SHO on March 8 as part of a Women’s Day initiative. Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed that posting women IPS officers in field roles is part of their practical district training. This strategy helps young officers gain grassroots administrative experience while tightening law enforcement in sensitive zones. Following her appointment, patrols have increased in rural pockets to stop illegal brewing ahead of the festival season. The police department plans to continue these search and destroy operations to maintain a strictly dry environment under the Bihar Liquor Prohibition Law.
