A 25-year-old youth named Bittu alias Palkiya was beaten to death by a group of nearly 25 people near Takiyapar in Danapur. The incident occurred on Thursday evening when the victim was attacked with bricks and iron rods near a local tea stall. Following his death during treatment late at night, local residents and family members staged a massive protest on Friday morning by blocking the Danapur-Gandhi Maidan main road.
What happened during the protest at Takiyapar?
Angry family members and locals placed the body of the deceased on the road near Takiyapar Gandhi Murti on Friday morning. The protesters engaged in arson and blocked traffic for about an hour to demand justice. The victim, who worked as a truck driver in Delhi, had returned home just three days ago for his sister’s wedding scheduled for May. The blockade was eventually lifted after Danapur police intervened and assured the family that the culprits would be caught soon.
Current status of the police investigation
Danapur Station House Officer Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj stated that the police are actively working on the case. Several teams are conducting raids to arrest the suspects involved in the lynching. The police have recovered the weapons used in the crime, including iron rods and bricks, from the spot. While investigating the motive, the SHO mentioned that the deceased had a prior criminal record and had been to jail before. Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers and have recorded statements from the family members.
